Infrasco offers extensions compatible with several common fire hydrant models such as McAvity, Daigle, Canada Valve, and others, in lengths of 6, 12, 18, 24, 30, and 36 inches. Lengths of 42 and 48 inches are also available by special order.

Extensions (also called fire hydrant risers) allow the height of an existing hydrant to be adjusted when ground level, terrain finish or installation conditions require leveling.

How to Determine the Correct Fire Hydrant Extension Length

To ensure safe installation and compliance with AWWA C502 standards, follow these guidelines:

1. Breakaway Flange Position

The breakaway flange must be positioned between 2 and 6 inches (50 to 150 mm) above finished grade. This height ensures that the intermediate section will be protected from structural damage in the event of an impact. Furthermore, it maintains the clearance of the pumper and hose nozzles at approximately 18 inches above the ground, allowing for fast and safe hose connections.

2. Coupling Configuration

Safety coupling: must be transferred to the upper section of the new extension stem. Extension coupling: used to connect the existing lower stem to the extension stem.

3. Stem Guide Position

If present, the stem guide must be reinstalled below the safety coupling to maintain proper alignment and operation.
